like a tarte flambée without a pastry base

Toast the slice of brown bread. Spread the crème fraîche on it and season lightly. Top the bread with a few diced ham. Arrange onion strips on top and cover with cheese. If you like, use two slices of bread and spread 1 tablespoon of crème fraîche on each. Grill the bread in a tabletop grill at 200°C for about 10 minutes until golden brown. This makes a delicious dinner. Serve the bread with a seasonal salad and perhaps a cold beer.
