Beef with onions

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 400 g beef fillet(s) or rump steak
  • 5 tbsp soy sauce
  • 5 tbsp rice wine
  • 2 tsp cornstarch
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1 onion(s) (vegetable onion), sliced, approx. 400 g
  • 3 carrots, diced, approx. 200g
  • 4 tbsp oil
  • 1 ½ tbsp sauce (hoisin sauce)
  • 200 ml beef stock or broth

Instructions

Working time approx. 25 minutes; Rest time approx. 1 hour; Total time approx. 1 hour 25 minutes

Cut the meat into strips. Mix together 3 tablespoons of soy sauce, 3 tablespoons of rice wine, 1 teaspoon of cornstarch, and 1 crushed garlic clove. Marinate the meat for 1 hour. Drain and fry in batches in 2 tablespoons of oil for 2 minutes. Remove from the pan. Fry the carrots and onion in the remaining oil for about 3 minutes, then press in the second garlic clove. Mix the hoisin sauce, beef stock or broth, the remaining soy sauce, cornstarch, and rice wine. Pour into the vegetables and bring to a boil. Add the beef, heat briefly, and season to taste.
