Ingredients for 8 servings:

  • 250 g bread(s), stale, dry, without seeds or rusks
  • 400 ml milk, warm
  • 250 g semolina
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 bags of vanilla sugar
  • 100 g raisins
  • Fat and semolina for the mold

Instructions

Working time approx. 15 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 1 hour; Total time approx. 1 hour 15 minutes

Groten Hans according to Grandma’s recipe

Soak the bread or rusks in the warm milk. Add the semolina, sugar, vanilla sugar, eggs, and raisins and mix well. The mixture should be nice and mushy, but not too runny. Grease a lidded pudding dish and line it with semolina, then pour in the mixture. Place the pudding dish in a large saucepan and fill with water. Cover and simmer gently for 1 hour. After this time, remove the pudding dish from the water bath, open it, and let stand for about 10 minutes, then turn out. Fruit compote or vanilla sauce are suitable accompaniments.
