Chai – Indian spiced tea

Ingredients for 2 servings:

  • 1 ½ cups of water (large coffee cup or mug)
  • 1 tsp black tea
  • 5 cardamom pods, green
  • some star anise, 3 of which are flower corners
  • ¼ stalk(s) cinnamon
  • 1 cardamom pod(s), black
  • 3 carnations
  • some ginger, fresh
  • 1 cup(s) milk (coffee mug size)
  • n. B. sugar

Instructions

Working time approx. 20 minutes; Total time approx. 20 minutes

from Punjab

Roughly grind the cloves, cinnamon stick, cardamom, and about three anise blossoms in a mortar and pestle. Bring the water, black tea, and spices to a boil. After about 10 minutes, add the milk, ginger, and sugar to taste. Bring back to a boil and let stand for about 5 minutes. Pour into cups and enjoy. The servings are designed for large coffee cups or mugs.
