Spread the love

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 1 liter red wine, sweet
  • 500 ml orange juice
  • 500 ml tea, black
  • 1 orange(s), untreated
  • 1 lemon(s), untreated
  • 150 g sugar
  • 1 stalk(s) cinnamon
  • 1 star anise
  • 4 cloves

Instructions

Working time approx. 10 minutes; Rest time approx. 1 hour; Total time approx. 1 hour 10 minutes

I recommend a sweet red wine in the price range of around €3.00. Simply heat the red wine in a large pot, but be careful not to let it boil. The lid should also be closed at all times, as otherwise the alcohol will evaporate very quickly. Cut the lemon and orange into approximately 5 mm thick slices and add them to the pot with the sugar and spices. Boil the black tea and add it to the pot along with the orange juice. Stir to dissolve the sugar. If the mulled wine isn’t sweet enough, you can add more sugar. Then let the mulled wine steep at a low temperature (50–60°C is optimal) for about an hour. This recipe makes 2 liters of mulled wine. For more, simply double the quantities accordingly, etc. The mulled wine made with my recipe isn’t very strong, but it does contain enough alcohol, so you shouldn’t drink too much.
