Cream Pegs

The perfect cream pegs recipe with a picture and simple step-by-step instructions.

  • 500 g Herring fillets
  • 1 size Onion
  • 2 Apples
  • 4 Pickles and some vinegar water
  • 200 g Cream
  • 100 ml Milk
  • 1 tbsp Mayonnaise
  • 5 Cloves
  • 5 Juniper berries
  • 2 Bay leaves
  • Pepper
  1. Rinse the herring fillets and cut into pieces if necessary.
  2. Peel and finely dice the onion. Peel the apple, cut into quarters, remove the core and cut the apple quarters into cubes. Also cut the pickles into cubes.
  3. Put everything in a bowl and season lightly with pepper. Add the cloves, juniper berries and bay leaves.
  4. Pour in the cream, a little vinegar water and milk, mix everything together well and let it steep for at least 5 hours (preferably overnight).
  5. Before serving, remove the cloves, juniper berries and bay leaves and season again with pepper and vinegar water.
