Ingredients for 15 servings:
- 400 g pretzel sticks
- 2 large egg whites
- 2 tsp vanilla extract or equivalent of vanilla paste
- 115 g sugar, alternatively 160 g xylitol (powdered sugar substitute)
- 1 tsp cinnamon powder
- ½ tsp cayenne pepper
- ½ tsp salt
Instructions
Working time approx. 15 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 1 hour; Total time approx. 1 hour 15 minutes
Place the pretzel sticks in a large, heatproof bowl and set aside. Whisk the egg whites and vanilla extract until semi-stiff, pour over the pretzel sticks, and mix to combine. In a separate medium bowl, thoroughly combine the sugar (or sugar substitute), spices, and salt, then sprinkle over the pretzel sticks. Spread the mixture onto a generously greased 27 x 39 x 2.5 cm baking sheet (or the oven’s drip tray) and bake at 120°C (250°F) for one hour. Let the confectionery cool, then break it apart. Store in an airtight container.
