Lime iced tea (made from fresh limes)

Spread the love

Ingredients for 8 servings:

  • 4 limes
  • 8 tbsp brown cane sugar
  • 2 liters of water

Instructions

Working time approx. 15 minutes; Rest time approx. 2 hours; Total time approx. 2 hours 15 minutes

great for summer

Wash and slice the limes. Add a little grated lime zest from one whole lime. Be careful, though: Lime zest is very bitter. If you like it bitter, you can add more zest. Quarter the slices and place them in a suitable container—depending on the quantity, you can also use a large bowl. Add 8 tablespoons of cane sugar and press the limes with a potato masher. Bring the water to a boil, pour over the limes, and mix well. Let the mixture steep for about 2 hours and then let it cool. Now, fish out the limes (e.g., using a small sieve). I personally like the lime pulp and grated lime zest to remain in the finished iced tea—alternatively, the pulp can also be strained out. The iced tea can also be served as a non-alcoholic Caipirinha. To do this, pour about 8 cl of lime iced tea (preferably the lime pulp version) and 4 cl of ginger ale into a cocktail glass and fill with crushed ice. To garnish, briefly dip the rim of the cocktail glass in water and then in brown sugar. The sugar will stick to the rim of the glass. Finally, place a sliced lime on the rim of the glass.
