Mackerel-Häckerli according to Grandma Anita

Spread the love

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 1 mackerel(s), smoked
  • 3 tbsp mustard, medium hot
  • 5 gherkins
  • 1 onion(s)
  • 150 ml cucumber juice
  • salt and pepper

Instructions

Working time approx. 15 minutes; Total time approx. 15 minutes

Separate the fish, remove the bones from the fillets, and place the fish in a bowl. The size of the fish pieces is irrelevant. Finely dice the cucumber and onion and add to the fish. Mash everything with a fork and gradually add the mustard and stock until the desired flavor and consistency is achieved. Season with salt and pepper, if desired. The Häckerli tastes best on a fresh slice of rye bread with butter. With plenty of toppings, the amount is enough for about four large slices of bread. That’s how Grandma always made it – it tastes best that way. Tip: Those who are figure-conscious can use smoked trout instead of the rich mackerel.
