Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 16 fish fillet(s) (mackerel)
  • 4 tbsp flour
  • 1 liter of water
  • 1 liter vinegar (herb vinegar)
  • 8 bay leaves
  • 8 tsp mustard seeds
  • 4 tsp salt
  • 4 tsp peppercorns
  • 4 tsp juniper berries
  • 12 tsp sugar
  • 3 onions

Instructions

Working time approx. 25 minutes; Total time approx. 25 minutes

Simply coat the fish fillets in flour and then fry briefly on both sides until browned. Peel the onions and slice them into rings. Bring them to a boil in a saucepan along with all the other ingredients for the stock. Pour over the fried mackerel. Let it marinate in the refrigerator for about 3 days. Serve with fried potatoes or bread rolls.
