Matjes Salad

The perfect matjes salad recipe with a picture and simple step-by-step instructions.

  • 250 g Herring fillets
  • 8 small Gherkins
  • 3 small Fresh shallots
  • 1 medium size Apple
  • 250 g Cream / sour cream 20% fat
  • 1 tbsp Chopped dill
  1. Cut the matjes fillets into pieces about 2-3 cm in size.
  2. Cut the pickles into thin slices. Peel off the shallots and also cut into thin rings.
  3. Peel, quarter, core and cut the apple into thin slices.
  4. Put the prepared ingredients in a bowl and mix, mix with sour cream and cover in the refrigerator for about 1 hour.
  5. If you like, garnish the salad with dill and serve with jacket potatoes.
