Pea Soup with Smoked Pork

The perfect pea soup with smoked pork recipe with a picture and simple step-by-step instructions.

  • 500 g Green peas
  • 500 g Kasseler
  • 1 bunch Soup vegetables
  • 3 Potatoes
  • 1 Onion
  • 100 g Ham cubes
  • 1 liter Vegetable broth
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • 2 Bay leaves
  • 5 Allspice grains
  • 1 Handful Roasted onions
  • Loaf
  1. Soak the peas in cold water overnight.
  2. Now cook the peas in the soaking water for about 30 minutes.
  3. Add the kasseler, spices and cleaned and chopped soup vegetables, also add the peeled and diced potatoes, pour in the vegetable stock and simmer for another 60 minutes.
  4. Peel and dice the onions and sauté them in the oil with the diced ham, add to the pea soup and simmer for another 10 minutes.
  5. Take the smoked pork from the soup, cut into cubes, and set aside.
  6. Purée the pea soup with the potato masher or, if you like it very fine, with the hand blender.
  7. Put the Kasseler back into the soup and let it steep for another 5 minutes.
  8. Sprinkle fried onions on the pea soup and serve bread.
