Saucijzenbroodjes – Indonesian-spiced puff pastry parcels

Ingredients for 8 servings:

  • 1 small onion(s), finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp ketjap manis
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tsp sambal oelek
  • 1 tsp, heaped cumin powder
  • ½ tsp nutmeg, freshly grated
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • 1 egg(s)
  • 250 g minced meat, mixed
  • 50 g breadcrumbs
  • e.g. salt and pepper
  • 8 sheets of puff pastry, approx. 10 x 10 cm
  • 1 egg yolk
  • possibly sesame

Instructions

Working time approx. 15 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 25 minutes; Total time approx. 40 minutes

Preheat oven to 200°C (top/bottom heat). Mix the onion, garlic, ketjap manis, Worcestershire sauce, sambal oelek, cumin, nutmeg, and milk thoroughly. Add one egg, the minced meat, and the breadcrumbs. Knead the mixture thoroughly and season with salt and pepper. Form eight sausages, each about 10 cm long, and place each on a sheet of puff pastry. Fold over and seal the edges with a fork. Line an oven tray with baking paper. Place each piece of puff pastry on top and brush with beaten egg yolk. Sprinkle some of the saucijzenbroodjes with sesame seeds, if desired. Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes and serve lukewarm.
