Scones – English pastries for tea

Mix the flour, sugar, vanilla sugar, salt, and baking powder. Add the cold butter to the dry ingredients. Beat with a mixer until a crumbly dough forms, or work it in by hand. In a separate bowl, whisk the buttermilk and egg. Quickly fold the mixture into the butter and flour mixture until all the ingredients are just combined. Roll out the dough on a floured work surface to a thickness of about 2 cm. Using a glass or similar tool (5 cm in diameter), cut out about 10 circles. Place the dough on a baking sheet lined with baking paper and bake in a preheated oven at 175°C (convection oven) for about 10-12 minutes.
