Silesian poppy – Kließla

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 500 ml milk
  • 4 tbsp sugar
  • 250 g poppy seeds, ground
  • 5 tbsp rum
  • 50 g raisins
  • 50 g almond(s), chopped
  • 16 slices of white bread

Instructions

Working time approx. 15 minutes; Rest time approx. 1 hour; Total time approx. 1 hour 15 minutes

Poppy seed dumplings, Silesian dessert

Heat the milk, add 2 tablespoons of sugar and the rum, and pour half of the warm milk over the poppy seeds. Mix in the raisins and almonds. Heat the remaining milk again, add 2 tablespoons of sugar, and drizzle it over the white bread. It should be soft, but not fall apart. Now alternate layers of poppy seed mash and white bread in a bowl, finishing with a layer of poppy seeds. Let the mixture cool.
