Spiced tea

Spread the love

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 1 piece(s) cinnamon, hanz
  • 6 cardamom pods, green
  • 6 carnations
  • 5 tsp strong black tea (e.g. Assam or Nilgiri)
  • 500 ml milk
  • 500 ml water
  • Honey or sugar to taste

Instructions

Working time approx. 20 minutes; Total time approx. 20 minutes

Masala Tea (traditional Indian spiced tea)

Roast the cinnamon, cardamom (if possible, replace half the green pods with black ones) and cloves in a dry pan over medium heat for 2-3 minutes. Place the roasted spices in a saucepan with half a liter of water and bring to a boil. Simmer over low heat for about 5 minutes. Add the tea, milk and honey or sugar and bring back to a boil. Remove the pan from the heat, cover and let steep for 3-5 minutes. Pour the tea through a sieve into a warmed teapot and serve hot immediately. You can also season the tea with coriander, aiwan, pepper, fennel or ginger. This not only gives it a delicate aroma, but also creates body heat, which is particularly popular in the colder months. The tea also tastes great after a hearty meal, as a round-off.
