Working time approx. 25 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 50 minutes; Total time approx. 1 hour 15 minutes

like my grandma makes it

In a mixing bowl, mix the sugar and margarine until smooth. Then beat in the eggs and add the flour, baking powder, and vanilla sugar. When the batter is nice and smooth, add a generous splash of schnapps (to make the batter nice and fluffy – don’t worry, you won’t taste the schnapps). Now grease the baking pan well so the cake doesn’t stick later. First, spread about half of the batter in the pan – it doesn’t have to be even! Then add cocoa powder to taste to the remaining batter, and a little milk if desired. It’s best to sift the cocoa powder beforehand to avoid lumps. Finally, pour the remaining mixture into the baking pan and spread it out slightly. Bake at 180°C (top/bottom heat) for about 50 minutes.
