Ingredients for 6 servings:

  • 1 piece(s) ginger, fresh, approx. 3 cm
  • 1 vanilla pod(s)
  • 1 stalk(s) cinnamon
  • 3 carnations
  • 3 star anise
  • 50 g raisins
  • 50 g almonds, coarsely chopped
  • 1 organic orange(s), peel and juice
  • 5 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 bottle of red wine, dry, strong
  • 200 ml rum
  • 1 organic lemon(s), peel and juice
  • 3 cardamom pods
  • 3 allspice berries

Instructions

Working time approx. 15 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 30 minutes; Total time approx. 45 minutes

Peel the ginger and slice thinly. Split the vanilla pod lengthwise, scrape out the seeds, and place it in a saucepan along with the vanilla pod, ginger slices, cinnamon stick, cloves, cardamom pods, and allspice berries. Add the star anise, raisins, almonds, orange and lemon zest and juice, and sugar. Pour in the red wine. Cover and simmer for 30 minutes. Strain through a sieve. Mix in the rum and pour the drink into heatproof glasses. This drink will heat up your drink considerably. For a milder drink, reduce the rum, omit it altogether, or mix it with tea.
