Thicken cherries with cornstarch – that’s how it works

All you need to thicken cherries are some cornstarch. If you use fresh cherries, you will also need water and some sugar if necessary. That’s how it works:

  1. Put the cherries from the jar in a saucepan with their juice. Use fresh cherries, stone them beforehand and add about 100 milliliters of water to 500 grams of cherries.
  2. Mix one to two tablespoons of cornstarch with a little water or cherry juice in a container to create a thick mass.
  3. Add the mixture to the cherries and stir well to avoid lumps. Add some sugar if needed.
  4. Switch the pot to medium heat and let the cherries boil briefly while stirring.
  5. Then remove the pot from the heat and let the cherries cool down or serve them while they are still hot. Note that the cherries will firm up as they cool.
  6. Tip: Depending on your taste, you can add a little lemon juice or cinnamon to the cherries.
