Grandma’s traditional family recipe, enjoyed by children and adults
Cut the rolls into small cubes and pour the milk over them. Stir thoroughly and let stand for about 15 minutes. Stir in the egg, salt, flour, and baking powder. Bring about 2 liters of water with 1 teaspoon of salt to a boil. Using a wet tablespoon, drop a test ball into the boiling water and observe whether it stays together or dissolves. If the latter is the case, add a little more flour to the dough. When everything is just right, add the entire mixture to the boiling water in the form of balls. Reduce the heat and simmer for about 7-8 minutes. Meanwhile, melt the butter in a pan and brown the breadcrumbs. Drain the breadcrumbs and serve with the breadcrumbs and applesauce or other compote. A dollop of sour cream, sour cream, or crème fraîche also goes well with the breadcrumbs. For diabetics: 1 large portion (amounts as described) has about 8-9 BU.
