whether plain or with toppings – simply delicious
Cream the butter or margarine with the sugar until fluffy. Separate the eggs and whisk the egg yolks with the natural yogurt into the mixture. Mix the flour, baking powder, and salt and fold in. Add enough water to form a thick batter. Beat the egg whites until stiff and fold into the batter. Bake the batter in batches in a hot waffle iron to make waffles. Tips: If you’re in a hurry, you can leave out the eggs and save yourself the hassle of ice cream – it tastes great anyway. Instead of natural yogurt, you can also use yogurt with chocolate pieces, poppy seeds, marzipan, nuts, or chocolate. The waffles rise particularly well if you use carbonated mineral water instead of water. Our kids love to eat them on their own; I like them spread with strawberry jam, and my husband likes them with Nutella.
