Alabama Buttermilk Biscuits

Spread the love

Ingredients for 1 servings:

  • 3 cup(s) flour, or more if needed
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 4 tbsp sugar
  • ½ packet of vanilla sugar
  • ½ cup margarine, liquid
  • 1 cup buttermilk

Instructions

Working time approx. 30 minutes; Rest time approx. 30 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 20 minutes; Total time approx. 1 hour 20 minutes

based on the recipe from Fannie Flagg’s “Fried Green Tomatoes”

Mix the ingredients (without the flour and baking powder) together. Mix the flour with the baking powder and finally mix in. Knead everything into a smooth dough. Add a little more flour if necessary. Chill the dough for at least 1/2 hour and then roll out to about 1/2 centimeter thick. Using a glass or a cookie cutter, cut out round cookies and bake at 180 degrees Celsius for 20 minutes until golden brown. Serve warm straight away – e.g., for breakfast. Variation: Reduce the sugar to 1 tablespoon – then the cookies are also a good accompaniment to savory poultry dishes. Notes: Use a large coffee mug as the measuring cup, not small cups! The cookies can also be stored for a few days if you keep them airtight. Before eating, it is recommended that you pop them in the toaster again for a short time.
