Allgäu water stopper

Spread the love

Ingredients for 1 servings:

  • Water
  • 2 pinches of salt
  • n. B. Flour
  • some margarine

Instructions

Working time approx. 5 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 15 minutes; Total time approx. 20 minutes

quick, easy and for a little snack in between

It’s best to use a non-scratch pan, or if you’re careful, which I prefer, a non-stick pan. Add about 1 cm of water to the pan. Not too much, otherwise it simply won’t taste good. Add 2 pinches of salt. Set the stovetop to medium heat and whisk in the flour until thickened. You need to work quickly and stir constantly, otherwise lumps will form. Once you’re finished stirring, increase the heat slightly. As soon as the surface has dried, melt a little margarine on it and spread it evenly. The underside should be lightly browned. Now the water stopper is ready. It tastes best straight from the pan, hence the recommendation to use the non-scratch pan. I would estimate this amount to be enough for 1-2 people, but not as a main meal, more for a snack. The water stopper is a so-called poor man’s dish from the Allgäu region, the recipe for which I got from my dad. I don’t have exact quantities because it’s just done by feel.
