Baguette with ham, Camembert and cranberries

The quantities can vary depending on whether you slice or halve the baguette. The quantities I’ve given are for halved baguettes. You certainly won’t need more for slices. Sliced, the baguette makes a great snack or as a starter. Preheat the oven to 200°C. Either halve the baguettes or slice them and spread with crème fraîche. Top with the ham. Cut the Camembert into not-too-thin slices and place on the ham. Finely chop the chives and sprinkle them on the baguettes. Place the baguettes on a wire rack rather than on a baking sheet, as otherwise the bases won’t crisp up properly. After 15-20 minutes in the oven, the cheese should be slightly melted and the baguettes should have browned. Remove the baguettes from the oven and add the cranberries. If you like the cranberries warm, you can add them 2 minutes before removing the baguettes from the oven. A salad also goes well with this dish.
