Ingredients for 8 servings:

  • 300 ml cola
  • 400 ml tomatoes, pureed, or tomato ketchup
  • 50 ml apple cider vinegar
  • 50 ml Worcestershire sauce
  • 100 g applesauce
  • 1 large onion(s)
  • 1 garlic clove(s)
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp paprika powder, hot
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp thyme
  • 1 tsp rosemary
  • 1 tsp coriander
  • ½ tsp cumin
  • pepper
  • e.g. paprika powder, smoked or liquid smoke

Instructions

Working time approx. 15 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 1 hour; Total time approx. 1 hour 15 minutes

Combine all ingredients, except for the smoked paprika or liquid smoke, in a saucepan and simmer for 45 minutes, first on high heat, then on low. Then strain the ingredients through a fine sieve and simmer for another 15 minutes until the desired consistency is reached. Season the sauce with the smoked paprika or liquid smoke. Be careful when adding smoked paprika or liquid smoke, as these products are very intense! You can vary the herbs and spices according to your taste.
