Bratwurst and onion bocadillo

Spread the love

Ingredients for 2 servings:

  • 2 small baguettes
  • 2 bratwursts, coarse, approx. 100 g each
  • 1 large onion(s), cut into strips
  • 4 slices of cheese of your choice, e.g. Gouda
  • 3 tbsp mayonnaise or cocktail sauce
  • 1 tbsp BBQ sauce
  • olive oil
  • Salt

Instructions

Working time approx. 15 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 20 minutes; Total time approx. 35 minutes

Fry the sausages in a pan, along with the onion. Lightly salt the onions. Cut the baguettes lengthwise and hollow them out, removing some of the crumb. Spread the bottom halves with mayonnaise or cocktail sauce. Brush the top halves with a little BBQ sauce and drizzle with a little olive oil. Place a sausage in the bottom half of each baguette and cut a slit lengthwise, about 3/4 of the way down. Arrange the onion in this slit and top with the cheese, which should be the same size as the baguette. Depending on the thickness of the cheese slices, you can double the amount. Bake the bottom halves of the baguettes in an oven preheated to 175°C for about 5 minutes. Then add the top halves and bake for another 5 minutes. Fold and serve. The sausage should be about the same length as the baguette, and cutting into the bread allows the juices to stay in the baguette. The onion can also be replaced with bell pepper, or both ingredients can be mixed.
