Date salad

Spread the love

Ingredients for 6 servings:

  • 1 pack of dates
  • 1 can pineapple
  • 1 large grapefruit
  • 2 m.-sized orange(s) or blood oranges
  • 1 pack of walnuts or freshly cracked ones
  • 2 tsp cinnamon powder
  • 2 cl rum

Instructions

Working time approx. 45 minutes; Rest time approx. 3 hours; Total time approx. 3 hours 45 minutes

winter dessert (alcoholic, not for children)

Chop the orange and grapefruit segments (bones removed) into a large bowl. Pit the dates and halve or third them. Add the pineapple, reserving the pineapple juice—it’ll be the highlight later! Finely chop or finely chop the walnuts (choose the amount according to your taste) and add them. Mix the pineapple juice with the cinnamon powder (it doesn’t look great, but you won’t notice it later) and add the rum. Pour over all the ingredients in the bowl and mix well. To prevent the dates from becoming “chewy,” I let the whole thing sit for 3-4 hours, or longer if needed. Depending on my mood and the number of people, I sometimes add kiwis, chopped pears, and bananas, but only shortly before serving to prevent them from becoming mushy. If you like, you can also serve the dessert as a sauce with vanilla ice cream.
