  • 4 m.-sized date(s), dried, without stone
  • 100 g margarine
  • 200 g flour

Instructions

Working time approx. 5 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 15 minutes; Total time approx. 20 minutes

from Nepal

To make the syrup, I boil the water in a saucepan, add the sugar, and let it simmer until the sugar has dissolved. In the meantime, I cut the dates into small pieces. I put the margarine in a large saucepan and melt it. Once the margarine has melted, I add the dates and let them sauté for about 2 minutes. Then I add the flour and mix everything with a wooden spoon. Next, I add the butter and vanilla flavoring, mix everything together, and leave it in the hot pan for about 5 minutes, stirring constantly, until the flour mixture starts to form a lump from the bottom of the pan. Next, I add a little of the hot syrup and mix everything until it forms a smooth lump again. I repeat this process until the syrup is used up and the flour mixture has become a smooth lump. Next, I take an ice cream scoop and use it to make little balls, which I arrange on plates and serve. In Nepal, people always enjoy drinking very strong, freshly roasted coffee.
