Rum-Kumquat Rock Candy

Ingredients for 1 servings:

  • 1 pack of kumquat(s)
  • 1 pack of brown rock candy (Grümmelkandis)
  • e.g. Rum (Stroh Rum, 80, 60 or 40% vol.)
  • 1 shot of flavoring (orange flavoring), natural or Grand Marnier

Take a preserving jar and clean it thoroughly. Cut the kumquats into slices and halves (lengthwise). Stack the fruit at the rim of the jar (for visual appeal) and fill to the top with the rock candy. Pour the rum into the gaps, add a dash of orange flavoring (or Grand Marnier), and then seal the jar airtight. Let it rest for at least four weeks or longer. Add 1-2 teaspoons of the rock candy or (if it’s already dissolved sufficiently) the thickened sugar solution to hot tea and stir. The kumquats add a delicious aroma, but they’re also great for snacking on.
