Christmas almond apples

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 4 large apples, approximately the same size
  • 4 tbsp sultanas
  • 3 tbsp cane sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • ½ tsp ginger
  • ½ tsp spice mix for Christmas cookies, if desired
  • 1 tbsp rusk crumbs or breadcrumbs
  • 4 tbsp almonds, chopped
  • 1 tbsp cream (almond dream, almond cream, vegan, organic if necessary)
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 250 ml white wine or apple juice

Wash and peel even-sized apples, if necessary. Cut off the tops and hollow them out. Combine the sultanas, raw cane sugar, spices, breadcrumbs, almonds, and almond cream. Fill the apples: first with knobs of butter, then the almond mixture. Butter a baking dish, place the apples in it, and cover. Place more knobs of butter on top, sprinkle with a little more raw cane sugar if desired. Pour the white wine or apple juice into the dish and simmer for about 30 minutes at 220°C.
